Anoka County Sheriff argues against disbanding the Minneapolis Police Department.
Amid conversations of the Minneapolis Police Department being disbanded, Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart said many of his officers aren’t interested in being employed in the city, according to Bring Me The News.
His statements come after Minneapolis City Council members revealed plans to disband the police force. President Lisa Bender said the council wants to part ways with “our city’s toxic relationship with Minneapolis Police Department. It’s our commitment to end policing as we know it, and recreate systems of public safety that actually keep us safe,” Bring Me The News reported.
But Sheriff Stuart isn’t on board as he said police have been on-site of protests to help keep order and promote peace.
He added, according to Bring Me The News, that while local police agencies do have their issues, “We are one of many agencies who have no appetite for going back to their city to restore order again; especially if their decision is to actively compromise the safety of the city.”
