Sen. Michelle Benson issued a statement expressing her disappointment in PhRMA for filing a lawsuit against the Alec Smith Affordable Insulin Act, which would provide free insulin to those who cannot afford it.

“I am disappointed that PhRMA has decided to file a lawsuit against Minnesota’s insulin affordability program. The program ensures safe and affordable insulin is readily available to all Minnesotans in need," Benson said in a press release from the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus.

When the legislation was in the works, Republican senators worked hard to reduce litigation risks to the legislation authors, while also ensuring affordable insulin is provided to everyone in Minnesota who needs it.

“PhRMA is missing the mark by wasting time and money on this lawsuit," Benson said in the press release. "Minnesotans would be far better off if the pharmaceutical industry would focus on fairness in pricing. You shouldn’t have to be a powerful government or a special interest group to have access to fair prices. All Minnesotans want to be treated fairly.”
