State Rep. John Heinrich (R-Anoka) recently called out Minnesota House of Representatives Democrats for blocking efforts to force Gov. Tim Walz to work with the legislature in order to continue the state of emergency related to COVID-19.
In a statement posted online, Heinrich stated that Walz’s recent extension of his emergency powers came with approximately four months of the state already operating with the governor able to exercise powers beyond those normally given to the executive branch.
In the recent special session, resolutions were presented in both the state House and Senate that would end the emergency, returning decision-making powers to the state legislature, he said in the statement.
“This would allow the branch of government closest to the people of Minnesota to have a voice in how the state responds to the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said in the statement.
Other subjects being addressed in the special session include bonding, taxes, public safety and supplemental budget spending, Heinrich said.
