The Minnesota Sheriff’s Association is offering scholarships to help students attending law enforcement training.
The association will award 15 scholarships of $600 each.
“The next generation of protectors needs our collective support and encouragement,” Anoka County Sheriff James Stuart, senior vice president of the organization, said in a statement. “We are excited to see this program continue as we seek to recruit and hire the best possible candidates to serve our communities.”
In order to qualify for the scholarships, students must be enrolled in mandated POST Skills Program, in their second year of a two-year law enforcement program or a third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program.
The association intends to award scholarships to all geographical regions of the state and will announce the winners by Monday, Dec. 28. The scholarships "are due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 sheriffs of the State of Minnesota," the group said.
