City of Coon Rapids: Spring Load Restrictions

4

City of Coon Rapids issued the following announcement on March 15.

Spring load restrictions go into effect on City streets Wednesday, March 16 at 12:01 a.m. At this time, vehicle load limits on all public City streets are restricted to a maximum weight of five tons per axle.

For private streets, please check with the owner to see whether those streets have any load restrictions. For State highways and County roads, check with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) or Anoka County to see what the restrictions are on their roadways.

This is important information for anyone who is moving, hauling or planning a construction project. You may have to use smaller trucks or lighter loads. Spring load restrictions are part of a pavement preservation strategy in regions with freeze-thaw environments. MnDOT sets the start and end dates for spring load restrictions. Like most local road authorities in Minnesota, the City of Coon Rapids follows the dates established by MnDOT.

According to MnDOT, ending dates for spring load restrictions are based on how the weather is affecting roadway strength. These dates are established by monitoring roadway strength as weather conditions change. The end date for spring load restrictions varies from year to year, but it cannot be more than 60 days after the date they have been placed.
