(04/27/2022) In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided meals for students in schools across the country at no cost for the past two school years. That program will end at the conclusion of the 2021-22 school year.
In order to receive meal assistance for the 2022-23 school year, a new application for free and reduced meals will need to be filled out. A new application needs to be filled out each school year, even if you have been approved in the past. For more information, visit ahschools.us/freereduced.
At the April 25 regular School Board meeting, the Anoka-Hennepin child nutrition program recommended a five-cent increase for meals in 2022-23. The cost of food, supplies and labor, as well as repairs and equipment upgrades, led to the recommendation.
With the proposed increase, Anoka-Hennepin would continue to remain one of the lowest cost districts in the metro area for school meal prices.
With a five-cent price increase, elementary breakfast would be $1.50 and lunch priced at $2.55. The price of breakfast at the secondary level would remain the same at $1.60 and the lunch price would increase to $2.70.
The food service fund is funded solely by the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs through the USDA, State of Minnesota school lunch funding, and daily food sales.
