May is Building Safety Month

7

May is Building Safety Month, and each week features a different topic relating to building safety. Week one is Energy and Innovation.

Americans spend more than $200 billion on energy every year. We use it to power everything in our daily lives, but not without costs on our wallet and planet. Building energy codes help to set standards in building and create more energy efficient buildings and construction. Energy efficient practices result in healthier lives for residents and cheaper energy bills.

Learn about growing sustainability practices in building here.

Creating energy efficient homes and buildings starts with construction plans, and ends with you!

There are many resources available to help residents reduce energy bills and improve their energy use.

The City of Coon Rapids recently launched the Green Homes program to help homeowners with the costs of specific energy efficient updates and energy assessments. Energy providers such as Xcel Energy and Connexus Energy also provide tips and resources for renters and homeowners to lower energy bills.
