District Destination Imagination teams flourish at state competition

21

(05/06/2022) Eight teams representing Anoka-Hennepin Schools competed at the Destination Imagination state competition at Coon Rapids Middle School April 23. Six teams advanced to the Global Finals and another will serve as an alternate at the annual competition in Kansas City, Mo. May 21-25. 

Teams gathered from around the state competed in various challenge topics consisting of science, fine arts, improvisation, engineering and community service.

“It was exciting to have our teams back together and it was another great year for Anoka-Hennepin Destination Imagination teams,” said Lynn Montgomery, district Destination Imagination coordinator. “Our students were incredible, working together using problem solving, invention and teamwork before and after school to create these outstanding solutions and performances.”

Over 150,000 students participate in Destination Imagination, and only the top one percent of the teams qualify for the Global Finals. 

State competition results:

Fine Arts Challenge

Elementary School level:

Madison Elementary School, Seventh place.

High School level:

Blaine High School, First place and advancing to Global Finals.

Community Service Challenge

Middle School level:

Northdale Middle School, First place and advancing to Global Finals. 

Technical Challenge

Middle School level:

Northdale Middle School, First place and advancing to Global Finals. 

Engineering Challenge

Elementary level:

Rum River Elementary, First place and advancing to Global Finals.

Madison Elementary School, Second place and advancing to Global Finals.

Oxbow Creek Elementary School, Fourth place, Global alternate. 

Improvisation Challenge

Elementary level:

Rum River Elementary School, Second place and advancing to Global Finals.
