Minnesota State Representative Harry Niska has publicly criticized Governor Tim Walz for expenditures related to legal consulting fees, as detailed in a series of tweets posted on July 14 and 15, 2025. In his statements, Niska questioned the necessity and appropriateness of payments made by the Walz administration to out-of-state legal counsel.

On July 14, 2025, Rep. Niska wrote: "I reviewed these invoices. Walz paid hundreds of thousands to politically-connected DC lawyers so they could tell him what Minnesota & federal law is. If he can’t trust the AG’s office to advise him on that, he should tell Minnesota taxpayers and voters why not." In this tweet, Niska raised concerns about the reliance on external legal advice rather than utilizing state resources such as the Attorney General's office.

In a subsequent tweet posted moments later on July 14, Niska continued his criticism: "He also paid these Washington lawyers to teach him about Congressional hearings (he served there for 12 years). A totally unacceptable waste of money. But par for the course for this wasteful, irresponsible administration." Here, Niska pointed out that Governor Walz previously served in Congress for twelve years and questioned the need for additional guidance on congressional matters.

On July 15, 2025, Rep. Niska posted a brief statement: "Let’s go!"

Rep. Harry Niska is a member of the Minnesota House of Representatives known for his critiques of government spending practices under Governor Tim Walz's administration.
