Minnesota State Representative Bryan Lawrence of District 27B provided an update as the legislative session nears its conclusion with a May 19 deadline. Lawrence addressed concerns raised by constituents about proposed legislation affecting homeschooling and vaccination mandates.

Lawrence stated his opposition to proposals that would introduce new oversight or reporting requirements for homeschool families. "Let me be clear: I strongly oppose any effort to burden homeschool families with unnecessary oversight or bureaucratic red tape," Lawrence said. He referenced a Senate proposal for additional reporting requirements, noting, "That is not the direction we should be heading." He assured constituents there is no support among House Republicans for such measures and committed to defending parental rights.

He also commented on discussions regarding mandated vaccinations for children, saying, "I firmly believe that decisions about your child’s health should be made by you, not the government. Parents have the right to decide what vaccinations their children receive, and I will stand firm in protecting that right."

Addressing fiscal policy, Lawrence reiterated his stance against tax increases amid a significant budget surplus from the last biennium. "I will not support any tax increases. Period," he said. He advocated for reprioritizing existing funds and addressing fraud rather than increasing taxes.

On May 1, the Minnesota House recognized the National Day of Prayer through a resolution introduced by Rep. Mueller. The resolution commemorates the observance's origins dating back to 1775 and its role in uniting Americans in prayer for their communities and leaders. "It was an honor to support this resolution and attend a local service in recognition of the day," Lawrence noted.

Lawrence also highlighted passage of a bipartisan transportation bill in the House. The legislation shifts funding from transit projects like the Blue Line extension toward $99 million in road and bridge improvements across Minnesota. It includes provisions ensuring electric vehicles contribute to road maintenance costs and implements safety measures such as pedestrian upgrades and anti-DWI initiatives.

The bill postpones certain greenhouse gas requirements on highway projects until at least 2028, allowing more time for community input and focus on infrastructure needs.

Lawrence concluded by encouraging continued communication from constituents as he works through the final days of session: "As we approach the final days of this session, it's important to remember that the work we do here in St. Paul only matters when it reflects the priorities and values of the people we represent."
