This morning, the Minnesota Supreme Court issued a decision regarding public accommodation discrimination and gender divisions in sports. According to Republican Leader Niska, the court ruled that "it is illegal ‘public accommodation’ discrimination to maintain a women’s or girls’ sports division that excludes males based on sex." Niska attributed the ruling to efforts by Governor Walz, Attorney General Ellison, and Minnesota Democrats.

Niska expressed concern about the potential consequences of this decision. He stated: "Whether intentional or not, this decision has sweeping implications that could effectively eliminate girls’ sports in Minnesota unless we provide statutory clarification."

He also highlighted prior legislative attempts by House Republicans to address the issue earlier in the year. "House Republicans saw this coming and tried to take action earlier this year to prevent exactly this outcome. Unfortunately, House Democrats blocked those efforts at every turn. It is now incumbent on Democrats to set aside partisan politics and join us in protecting the future of girls’ sports.”
