The Department of Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General was revamped following an investigation seven months ago.
State Sen. Jim Abeler, R-Anoka, said he was on the side of former equity coordinator Mohamed Alfash, who claimed he was fired when he tried to champion new initiatives within the agency, according to the Twin Cities Pioneer Press.
Abeler criticized the DHS's Office of Inspector General, saying Alfash was not given a chance to "thrive and share his talents," the news agency reported.
Abeler said after the revamp, the office is now doing what it should.
"They took a nonfunctional department and they actually made it so it could function and actually be streamlined," Abeler said.
Inspector General Carolyn Ham was placed on leave in March at the beginning of the investigation into the complaint. It is unclear whether she will return once the investigation is concluded, the news agency reported.
