CITY OF BLAINE: Summer Pet Reminders

Dogcatwags

City of Blaine issued the following announcement on July 9.

Dogs Must be Leashed When Out for a Walk

Please remember that all dogs must be on a leash and under control while off their owner’s property. If you wish to have dogs run and play off leash, the city has an off leash dog park available at Aquatore Park.

Residents Will Need More than a Leash to Walk a Dog

Under city ordinance, pet owners are required to clean up after their dogs when taking them for a walk. Dog owners must carry a plastic bag or some other means of picking up after their dog whenever they are off their own property.

Dog waste, like other animal waste, contains bacteria that can end up in ponds, creeks, and rivers when washed away with the rain. In fact, Coon Creek and the Mississippi River are exceeding state bacteria standards. While large scale practices like retention ponds help keep bacteria out of local waters, your help at home is also needed and helps keep mitigation costs down by reducing pollution in the first place.

This ordinance was enacted in response to multiple complaints regarding the amount of animal waste accumulating within the park system and along walkways. Please be a courteous pet owner and clean up after your pet.
